We invite individuals and organizations to express their interest in joining the Summit Organizing Committee (SOC) for the upcoming Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises taking place from December 13 – 14, 2024, in Toronto, Canada.
About the Summit
The summit aims to address critical issues related to Sexual and gender-based violence, harmful practices, and sexual and reproductive health challenges (SRH), in refugee and humanitarian settings. By fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and proposing actionable solutions, the summit will seek to empower survivors and build resilient communities.
This summit also aims to address the challenges faced by refugees and displaced populations, particularly women, children, girls, young people, and LGBTQ+ individuals in accessing essential GBV services and resources and achieving gender equity.
Overview of the Summit Organizing Committee Overview
The Summit Organizing Committee (SOC) is a dedicated group of individuals responsible for the meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of the Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises. Committed to advancing gender equality, equity, and women’s empowerment amidst the crisis, this dynamic committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring the summit achieves its goals of fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge, and advocating for change.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Summit Organizing Committee (SOC) is to orchestrate a comprehensive and impactful event that addresses the critical issues related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender equity in refugee and humanitarian settings. The committee is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a unique platform that unites key stakeholders from various sectors, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, humanitarian workers, researchers, NGOs, and survivors of humanitarian crises.
Membership to the Summit Organizing Committee
The Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises acknowledges and appreciates the commitment of individuals and organizations interested in joining the Summit Organizing Committee (SOC). The mandate of the SOC involves crucial responsibilities aimed at ensuring the summit’s success and contributing to positive change in humanitarian response.
Please note that membership to the SOC is voluntary, and there will be no financial remuneration for participating in the committee. We recognize and value the dedication and expertise that members bring to the table, and we believe that your involvement will play a significant role in achieving the conference’s objectives.
Membership Eligibility
Membership to the SOC is open to individuals and organizations, both in Canada and Outside Canada, who are 18 years and above, and have a passion, interest, and experience in addressing critical issues related to gender equality, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and gender equity in refugee and humanitarian settings
Key Responsibilities for the Summit Organizing Committee
- Strategic Planning: Develop a strategic plan to guide the conference, aligning with its theme, “Empowering Survivors, Building Resilient Communities.”
- Program Development: Design an engaging program featuring interactive sessions such as panel discussions, workshops, breakout sessions, keynote addresses, and poster presentations.
- Logistics and Operations: Coordinates logistical arrangements, including venue selection, catering, accommodation, and on-site operations during the conference.
- Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote the conference and engage a diverse audience.
- Sponsorship and Exhibitors: Identifies and secures sponsors, manages relationships with sponsors and exhibitors, and coordinates logistics for exhibitor spaces.
- Registration and Participant Services: Manages the conference registration process, coordinates participant services, and addresses inquiries from registered participants.
- Content and Abstract Review: Reviews and selects abstracts and sessions for inclusion in the conference, ensuring high-quality content and relevance to the theme.
Structure of the Summit Organizing Committee
Chairperson
- Oversees the overall planning and coordination of the conference.
- Chairs organizing committee meetings.
- Acts as the main liaison between sub-committees and the committee.
- Provides strategic direction and decision-making.
Vice Chairperson
- Assists the chairperson in their duties.
- Takes on the chairperson’s responsibilities in their absence.
- Manages specific tasks as delegated by the chairperson.
Secretary
- Manages communication within the committee and with external stakeholders.
- Records and distributes meeting minutes.
- Maintains documentation and records related to the conference.
Program and Content Subcommittee
- Develop the summit program and agenda.
- Coordinates with speakers, presenters, and session organizers.
- Reviews and selects abstracts and sessions for inclusion.
Logistics and Operations Subcommittee
- Handles logistical arrangements, including venue selection, catering, and accommodation.
- Coordinates with vendors and service providers.
- Ensures smooth on-site operations during the conference.
Marketing and Promotion Subcommittee
- Develop and implement the conference marketing strategy.
- Manages promotional materials, social media, and other communication channels.
- Coordinates with media partners and handles press relations.
Sponsorship and Exhibitors Subcommittee
- Identify and secure sponsors for the conference.
- Manages relationships with sponsors and exhibitors.
- Coordinate logistics for exhibitor spaces.
Registration and Participant Services Subcommittee
- Manage the conference registration process.
- Coordinate participant services, including information desks and on-site support.
- Handle inquiries from registered participants.
