Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises

Hope for Refugees International invites submissions for abstracts to be presented at the Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises, happening in December 2024, in Toronto, Canada. 

Hope for Refugees International is pleased to invite researchers, practitioners, and advocates to submit abstracts for presentations, case studies, and posters to be presented at the Global Summit on Ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Refugee and Humanitarian Crises

This Summit, under the theme: “Empowering Survivors, Building Resilient Communities” aims to address the critical issue of SGBV in refugee and humanitarian settings.

Submission Topics

We welcome submissions on a range of topics related to SGBV in refugee communities, including but not limited to:

Prevention Strategies and Initiatives:

• Innovative approaches to preventing SGBV in refugee camps and urban settings.
• Community-based interventions and their effectiveness in reducing SGBV incidents.
• Role of education and awareness campaigns in preventing SGBV.
• Integrating SGBV prevention into broader humanitarian response efforts.

Survivor Support and Rehabilitation Services

• Best practices in providing medical, psychological, and social support to SGBV survivors.
• Case studies on successful rehabilitation programs for SGBV survivors.
• Legal aid and justice mechanisms for survivors of SGBV.
• Economic empowerment programs aimed at supporting SGBV survivors.

Intersectionality and Inclusivity

• Addressing SGBV among marginalized groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and ethnic minorities.
• Understanding the unique challenges faced by different demographic groups in refugee settings.
• Strategies to ensure inclusive and intersectional approaches in SGBV prevention and response.

Policy Frameworks and Advocacy Efforts

• Role of international and national policies in ending SGBV.
• Advocacy strategies to influence policy changes and improve SGBV responses.
• Case studies on successful policy advocacy campaigns.

Legal and Psychosocial Support Mechanisms

• Access to justice for SGBV survivors in refugee settings.
• Legal frameworks that protect against SGBV and support survivors.

• Training for legal and psychosocial professionals working with SGBV survivors.

Addressing SGBV Among Marginalized Groups

• Special focus on the needs of LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers.
• Programs and policies that address SGBV against persons with disabilities and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
• Cultural sensitivity and adaptation in SGBV response programs.
• Case studies highlighting successful interventions for marginalized groups.

Submission Guidelines

• Abstract Length: Abstracts should be no more than 300 words.
• Format: Submissions should include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), and contact information.
• Categories: Indicate whether your submission is for a presentation, case study, or poster.
• Deadline: All abstracts must be submitted by October 30th, 2024.
• Notification: Authors will be notified of acceptance by November 10, 2024.

Presentation Formats

• Oral Presentations: 20-minute presentation followed by a 10-minute Q&A session.
• Poster Presentations: Posters will be displayed throughout the Summit, with designated times for authors to present their work and engage with attendees.
• Case Studies: 30-minute session highlighting real-world applications, challenges, and solutions related to Sexual and Gender Based Violence in refugee settings.

Review Process

All submissions will be peer-reviewed by a committee of experts in the field of SGBV and refugee issues. Criteria for evaluation include relevance, originality, methodological rigor, and potential impact.

Selected abstracts will contribute to cross-sectoral dialogue, the sharing of innovative strategies, and the advancement of inclusive approaches to ending SGBV and empowering survivors to build resilience and create a safer, more equitable future for all.
